Gas is the unit that measures the computational work a transaction or smart contract uses on chains like Ethereum. You pay a gas fee proportional to that work.
Mining-focused chains such as Pearl are not smart-contract chains, so they have no gas: their transaction fees are simple, like Bitcoin's.
